GEORGE WASHINGTON WILSON (1823-93)
[Upper] Falls of the Garravalt [sic]
1859Albumen print | 7.5 x 7.0 cm (image) | RCIN 2117169
Photograph of a single arched wooden bridge spanning the Garbh-allt river in Braemar. A man leans on the centre of the bridge, looking down at the river as it flows underneath. The water tumbles over boulders in the foreground and tree branches encroach into the picture from the top right.
The photograph may have been taken in the autumn of 1859 as a review for this photograph was published in the British Journal of Photography on the 15th January 1860. Wilson did return to re-photograph certain locations that were popular with the paying public as the demand for prints necessitated the need for multiple negatives.
