GEORGE WASHINGTON WILSON (1823-93)

Norman Tower, Windsor Castle

1863

Albumen print | 10.7 x 7.8 cm (image) | RCIN 2117195

Photograph of the Norman Gate in Windsor Castle with the moat garden on the right. A small wooden fence that partitions a section of the garden stands in the right of the foreground. On the left is the moat garden wall.

This photograph is typical of the album print that Wilson introduced in the autumn of 1863. These were often taken from one half of a stereoscopic negative that Wilson already had in his collection which omitted the need to re-photograph a scene.
