GEORGE WASHINGTON WILSON (1823-93)

Birkhall

c. 1862

Albumen print | 10.1 x 17.0 cm (image) | RCIN 2160359

Photograph of a landscape view with Birkhall in the distance. In the foreground, trees obscure the River Dee. In the background are hills with concentrated areas of tree cover.

This photograph is typical of the picturesque album prints that Wilson was producing during the first half of the 1860's. Wilson re-visited many of the views that had proved popular to the public in earlier years. The enduring popularity of these views strengthened his status as one of Scotland's most successful commercial photographers.
