GEORGE WASHINGTON WILSON (1823-93)

Balmoral Castle from the South East

c. 1862

Albumen print | 11.3 x 17.0 cm (image) | RCIN 2160357

Photograph of a view of Balmoral Castle taken from the south east over trees from the South East. Porte cochère and entranceway on left with main building and square tower on right partially obscured by trees.

This photograph is typical of the picturesque album prints that Wilson was producing during the first half of the 1860's. Wilson re-visited many of the views that had proved popular to the public in earlier years. The enduring popularity of these views strengthened his status as one of Scotland's most successful commercial photographers.
