REVEREND ROBERT COLLYER
Letter from the Reverend Robert Collyer, librarian at Holkham Hall, to Joseph Cundall naming some Raphael drawings in the collection there.
2 Nov 1859Loose manuscript paper; mounted | 1 document (4 pages) (whole object) | RA VIC/ADDA10/85/76
Collyer writes that the other Raphael drawings at Holkham which he showed to Cundall, apart from the 'academy figure' which Cundall photographed, were two 'studies for the Heliodorus' and 'sketches for the Creation'. He adds that engravings for the Heliodorus in the Vatican are available, but that the Creation sketches are too faint to be photographed. A note by Cundall on the letter reports that the architectural volume [at Holkham] contained only designs of an architectural character.
This letter was an enclosure in Cundall's letter to Dr Becker of 11 November 1859 (VIC/ADDA10/85/75).
