Letter from P&D Colnaghi Scott & Co to Charles Ruland sending a photograph of a [Raphael] drawing and reporting on their efforts to procure other photographs requested by Ruland.

Loose manuscript paper; mounted | 1 document (4 pages) (whole object) | RA VIC/ADDA10/85/179

Colnaghi Scott & Co. write, in reply to a letter from Ruland (not present), that they are sending a photograph by Caldesi of the drawing Ruland saw at their gallery. They have written to Baron Marochetti and the Rev. Goddard asking permission for the drawings they bought at the Woodburn sale to be photographed for the Prince Consort. No. 909 in the sale was a modern copy of the Madonna della Sedia, sold to Mr Gott, to whom Colnaghis will write if HRH wants it photographed. They will check whether the Duc d'Aumale gave them the 2 drawings numbered 1 (2 figures of men, relating to the Canigiani Madonna), and 2 (children playing). They passed the negatives of the drawings they photographed for the Duc d'Aumale to him, and do not have any copies of them. Finally, they confirm that they did pass on the Prince Consort's commands to M. Blaisot and he undertook to provide photographs of the drawings in question; they will now ask him to send them at once.
