JOSEPH CUNDALL (1819-95)
Letter from Joseph Cundall to Dr. Ernst Becker explaining a mistake over the ownership of some Raphael pictures.
5 Dec 1859Loose manuscript paper; mounted | 1 document (4 pages) (whole object) | RA VIC/ADDA10/85/92
Cundall apologises for misreading a list of the owners of pictures by Raphael and mistakenly saying that the 'The Three Saints' belonged to Lord Carlisle, whereas Lord Ward is the owner.
He states that Mr Downes will go to Holkham [to photograph Lord Leicester's Raphael] because he himself is injured; but he will go to Mr Stewart's [Stuart's] at Aldenham Abbey next week, and will photograph Mr Hope's picture 'on the first clear day'.
He suggests that the negatives belonging to the Prince Consort should remain in his studio until Becker comes to Buckingham Palace, as they are so fragile.
