REVEREND HENRY GEORGE LIDDELL (1811-98)
Letter from Henry Liddell, the Dean of Christ Church, to Charles Ruland regarding photographing [Raphael] drawings in the college collection.
24 Jul 1861Loose manuscript paper; mounted | 1 document (4 pages) (whole object) | RA VIC/ADDA10/85/183
Writing from Wales, Liddell asks whether it will be important to have the drawings photographed before October, as he will be absent from Oxford until then; otherwise he will have to find another member of the Chapter to make the necessary arrangements. He points out that five of the drawings mentioned by Ruland belong to the University, not to Christ Church, and these will have to wait until October. But all the University's drawings were lent to the South Kensington Museum and he understands from Henry Cole that all were photographed, so that copies of these might suit the Prince Consort's purpose.
