CHARLES THURSTON THOMPSON (1816-68)
Letter from Charles Thurston Thompson to Dr. Ernst Becker asking whether all the drawings in the Raphael portfolio at Windsor are to be photographed.
20 Sep 1854Loose manuscript paper; mounted | 1 document (4 pages) (whole object) | RA VIC/ADDA10/85/6
Thompson points out that there are several drawings in the Raphael [port]folio at Windsor that Glover thinks are not by Raphael, and that Passavant selected only 18 drawings as genuine. He therefore asks whether Prince Albert wants the whole collection photographed, or only those stated by Passavant and Waagen to be genuine. He has already photographed several of the drawings not mentioned by either in their works.
He adds a postscript saying that he has received some photographs from the Sappers [from the Crimea] which he will be glad to show to Becker. A note by Becker on the letters records that he replied on 23 September saying that Thompson should photograph all the drawings.
