AFTER A WORK BY A FOLLOWER OF RAPHAEL (URBINO 1483-ROME 1520)

A portrait of a man

c.1853-1876

Albumen print | 30.0 x 35.0 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 850090

A photograph of a painting in the Royal Collection (RCIN 405760) currently attributed to a follower of Raphael. Annotated on the verso.

The authorship of the painting and the identity of the sitter are matters of dispute. It has been suggested that the painting may be a self-portrait painted by Raphael around 1505-6 in Urbino. See Bibliographic References for further information.

Photographs of this painting are also included in the "Portraits by Raphael" section of the Raphael Collection (see RCIN 851996 and 851997).
