In 1851 Prince Albert gave Queen Victoria a marble sculpture of Paul and Virginia by Guillaume Geefs, photographed here by André Adolfe Eugène Disdéri. Queen Victoria subsequently purchased Julia Margaret Cameron's photograph of this sculpture. Unfortunately, this print no longer remains in the Royal Collection although it represents an important purchase at a formative point in Cameron's career.
