This album is Volume 5 in a series of photography albums which Prince Albert arranged throughout his life in England. The album was continued after Albert's death, as the first page inscription poignantly notes;  'All the Photographs in this Volume as far as Page 10 were collected and arranged by His Royal Highness The Prince Consort 1860-61'. Many of the original albumen prints were later copied in carbon.  The contents of the album are varied, including portraits by Camille Silvy, scenes of Funchal Bay, Osborne and  Balmoral and a portrait of Prince Alamayou, son of Tewodros II, Emperor of Ethiopia, with Captain Speedy.
