A print after a painting, the composition of which is known as the Santa Chiara Madonna. The design - possibly derived from an original by Pinturicchio - is known in several existing versions. The painting reproduced in this print was formerly believed to be by Raphael, and was later ascribed by Passavant to Andrea di Aloigi, called l'Ingegno. The picture was once in the Convent of Santa Chiara in Urbino, and passed subsequently into the possession of Mr M.J.C. Hooker, an American banker active in Rome. The painting is said to have been purchased in Rome and placed in the Fogg Museum in 1900. Proof with etched signature at lower right and a heron at lower left. Not listed in Ruland's Raphael Collection catalogue (1876).
