An outline-etching after a drawing by Raphael (c.1509-11) currently in the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Lille (inv. no.455). Trimmed along all edges. Published in C.P. Landon, Vie et Œuvre complète de Raphaël Sanzio, 1803, plate 228. A photograph of the original drawing can be found at RCIN 851257.

The drawing has been associated with a number of Virgin and Child compositions painted by Raphael between 1507 and 1512, including the so-called Garvagh Madonna (see RCIN 850880).

The photograph shows the three-quarter length Virgin, seated, holding the Christ Child on her lap, who reaches for His mother's veil with His left hand while looking up at her.
