A photograph of a silver point study by Raphael (c.1507) now in the Louvre (inv. no.3861), executed in preparation for his so-called ‘Holy Family under a Palm Tree’ (c.1506-07), a painting currently on loan to National Gallery of Scotland, Edinburgh (inv. no.NGL 062.46), from the Duke of Sutherland Collection. See RCIN 850726 for a print reproducing the painting.

Showing the Christ Child turning to the left and laying on the lap of the Virgin, who supports Him with her right hand and further secures Him by holding a veil put around His waist. In the top left corner is a study for the head of St Joseph.
