A photograph of a drawing formerly attributed to Raphael catalogued by Ruland (1876) as being then in the collection of the late Major Kühlen, Rome. The drawing can presumably be identified with the one appeared on the market in 1991 (Lempertz, Köln; 12 December 1991, lot 483).

The principal group of the composition resembles a drawing now in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford (inv no.WA1940.68) attributed to Giovanni Francesco Penni and thought to be a preliminary study for a painted tondo generally ascribed to Penni himself currently housed in the Museo della Badia di Cava dei Tirreni, Salerno.
