c. 1863RCIN 2084199
Glass plate negative of a view within the grounds of Frogmore in the Home Park, Windsor. The Celtic-style memorial cross erected to the memory of Baron Stockmar is visible in the distance, to the left. A pavilion can be seen on the opposite side.
Christian Friedrich, Baron Stockmar (1787-1863), provided counsel to Victoria, Princess Royal, later The Empress Frederick. He died at Coburg in 1863 and the proposal for a memorial was put forward by Princess Victoria.
The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. For a close-up negative of the cross, see RCIN 2084201.
