'Queen Victoria at Prayer in the Prince Consort's Bedroom'
1861-80RCIN 2084810
Glass plate negative of a painting depicting the Blue Room at Windsor Castle, set out in memory of Prince Albert, who died there in 1861. His bust by William Theed (1804-91) stands between two beds on which floral tributes are laid. Queen Victoria dressed in mourning is kneeling in prayer at the bedside in the foreground. Beyond is the prince's washstand.
The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. Prints from this negative do not seem to exist in the Collection.
