Mar 1856

Wet collodion negative | RCIN 2083653

Glass plate negative of a full length portrait of Princess Louise, later Duchess of Argyll (1848-1939) dressed as a Vivandiere for the tableau, 'The Allies' performed at Windsor Castle. She wears a hat, fitted blouse, full skirt and trousers.

The negative has been masked out, indicating the photographer's intention to print within the smaller square.

The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. A print of this work exists in the Collection, RCIN 2900068.
