Albert and Victoria’s collection of glass plate negatives show photographers’ working methods
Princess Louise, later Duchess of Argyll (1848-1939) and Princess Feodora of Hohenlohe-Langenburg (1807-72)
Jul 1859RCIN 2082702
Glass plate negative featuring two full length portraits, one depicting Princess Louise (left), the other Princess Feodore (right). The princesses are shown in similar poses, seated at a circular side table, facing to the right. The photographs were taken in the grounds of Osborne House.
The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. A print from the portrait of Princess Louise exists in the Collection (RCIN 2900215), while prints from the portrait of Princess Feodore do not seem to survive. However, a variant from the same sitting is represented by RCIN 2906437.
