Albert and Victoria’s collection of glass plate negatives show photographers’ working methods
Princess Louise, later Duchess of Argyll (1848-1939)
1864RCIN 2082513
Glass plate negative of a full portrait of Princess Louise standing, facing slightly to the left and gazing directly at the camera. She wears a dress with contrast trimming and a plumed hat. Her hands are placed in a fur muff which she rests on a jacket draped over the back of a chair. Drapery is visible on the far right.
The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. Prints from this negative do not seem to exist in the Collection, however a variant from the same sitting is represented by RCIN 2900900.
