Glass plate negatives

Albert and Victoria’s collection of glass plate negatives show photographers’ working methods

FRANCES SALLY DAY (C. 1816-92)

Prince Arthur, later Duke of Connaught (1850-1942), and Prince Leopold, later Duke of Albany (1853-84)

Jul 1859

RCIN 2082694

Glass plate negative featuring two full length portraits of Prince Arthur and Prince Leopold standing, facing towards the camera. Whilst in the left image they hold hands, in the right image they appear arm-in-arm. They both wear Highland dress. Photograph taken at Osborne.

The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. Prints from this negative exist in the Collection, RCINs 2900216 and 2900217.
