Albert and Victoria’s collection of glass plate negatives show photographers’ working methods
Prince Alfred, later Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (1844-1900)
Mar 1860RCIN 2082543
Glass plate negative of a full length portrait of Prince Alfred, later Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (1844-1900) in naval uniform. The prince stands, facing three-quarters to the right and turning his head to gaze towards the camera. His arms are crossed over his chest and holds his cap in one hand.
The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. Prints from this negative do not seem to exist in the Collection, however a variant is represented by RCIN 2900268.
