Prince Albert's shrine at the Mausoleum at Frogmore
c. 1862RCIN 2084244
Glass plate negative of the wooden shrine to Prince Albert (1819-61) inside the Royal Mausoleum, Frogmore. The doors of the construction are open so that the prince's sarcophagus and effigy are visible. The base of the tomb is covered with wreaths.
The shrine was constructed possibly temporally to protect the tomb as the building of the mausoleum continued around it.
The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. Prints from this negative do not seem to exist in the Collection.
