Prince Albert (1819-1861)
1845RCIN 2083726
Glass plate negative of a painting created by Franz Xaver Winterhalter in 1845 (RCIN 404129). The work depicts Prince Albert in evening dress with the ribbon and star of the Order of the Garter. It was commissioned by Prince Albert, and given by him to Queen Victoria on her birthday, 24 May 1845.
The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. Prints from this negative do not seem to exist in the Collection.
