Memorial Cross to Baron Stockmar, Windsor
c. 1863RCIN 2084201
Glass plate negative of a memorial cross erected to the memory of Baron Stockmar within the grounds of Frogmore in the Home Park, Windsor. The cross is of Celtic design with ivy covering the base and is flanked on either side by two benches.
Christian Friedrich, Baron Stockmar (1787-1863), provided counsel to Victoria, Princess Royal, later The Empress Frederick. He died at Coburg in 1863 and the proposal for a memorial was put forward by Princess Victoria.
The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. For a photograph of the same subject, taken few years later, see RCIN 2140315.
