Maquette of the Prince Albert memorial, Kensington Gardens
1863-76RCIN 2083857
Glass plate negative of a maquette relating to the Prince Albert memorial in Kensington Gardens. It shows a view of 'Africa', intended for one of the four outermost allegorical programmes of the monument representing four continents (Africa, the Americas, Asia and Europe).
A card with William Theed's (1804-91) surname has been placed against the base. The digit following his surname possibly reffers to the version or side of the maquette.
The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. Prints form this negative do not seem to exist in the Collection.
