Maquette of the Prince Albert memorial
c. 1864 - c. 1880RCIN 2083831
Glass plate negative of a maquette relating to the Prince Albert memorial in Coburg. The prince is depicted in his Garter robes holding a sceptre in one hand.
Queen Victoria attended the unveiling ceremony of the bronze statue on 26 August 1865 - 26 August was Albert's birthdate - with the Prince's brother Ernest II, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, and all nine of her children with Albert.
The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. Prints form this negative do not seem to exist in the Collection.
