Maharajah Duleep Singh (1838-93)

Following the annexation of the Punjab by the British East India Company, Maharajah Duleep Singh was initially given a pension and provided with a guardian, Dr John Login, before being brought to England in April 1854. He met Queen Victoria at Buckingham Palace in July of that year and also stayed with the Royal Family at Osborne House.

The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. A print of this works exists in the Collection, RCIN 2906553.
