Albert and Victoria’s collection of glass plate negatives show photographers’ working methods

Glass plate negative of a full-length group portrait of (from right to left): Mr Ernst Becker (1826-88); Colonel Charles Phipps (1801-66); Miss MacDonald; Lady Churchill; George Leveson Gower (1815-91), the 2nd Earl of Granville and George Hamilton Gordon (1784-1860), the Earl of Aberdeen. The group are posed on open ground with trees in the background.

The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. A print from this negative exists in the Collection, RCIN 2160336.
