Group portrait with Prince Albert, Leopold I and Queen Victoria
29 - 29 Jun 1859RCIN 2084351
Glass plate negative of a full-length group portrait of, from right to left, Prince Philippe, Count of Flanders, Princess Alice, Prince Albert, Duke of Oporto, Queen Victoria (seated), Albert Edward, Prince of Wales and Leopold I of Belgium. The group are posed outside in front of a building, possibly Buckingham Palace. You can see the reflection of a man, possibly the photographer, in a window on the left.
Colonel de Ros, at that time Equerry to the Prince Consort, was a keen photographer, and much of his work was placed in the royal photograph albums.
The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. A print from this negative exists in the Collection, RCIN 2106439.
