Glass plate negatives

Albert and Victoria’s collection of glass plate negatives show photographers’ working methods

Dr Ernst Becker (1826-88)

c. 1860

RCIN 2082733

Glass plate negative featuring two full-length portraits of Dr Ernst Becker standing. The sitter faces towards the left and gazes ahead, away from the camera. He places one hand on on top of a nearby decorative plinth and holds a top hat in the orther hand. There is a painted backdrop directly behind him depicting a lyric landscape.

The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. Prints from this negative do not seem to exist in the Collection.
