Glass plate negative of a full length portrait of Charlotte, Viscountess Canning seated in an armchair, facing three-quarters to the left. She looks down at a book she holds open on her lap. She holds a flower in her hand.
From 1842 to 1855, Lady Canning served as a Lady of the Bedchamber to Queen Victoria. She moved to Calcutta in 1856 upon her husband's appointment Governor-General of India.
The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. A print from this negative exists in the Collection, RCIN 2906650.
