c. 1859RCIN 2084323
Glass plate negative of a painting of Albert Edward, Prince of Wales created by Franz Xaver Winterhalter in 1859 (RCIN 405039). The prince is depicted wearing the uniform of a Lieutenant-Colonel of the Grenadier Guards with the ribbon and star of the Garter. The announcement of his appointment as Colonel was made on 9 November 1858.
The glass plate negative has been photographed showing the coated side and therefore the image appears laterally reversed. Prints from this negative do not seem to exist in the Collection.
