Queen Victoria and Prince Albert were great admirers of the actor Thomas Frederick Robson (c. 1822–64) and he was regularly invited to perform plays at royal residences. Owing to their admiration, the royal couple collected a series of cartes depicting Robson posed and dressed as various roles he played during his career. In this carte, Robson poses as a character in 'Boots at the Swan'.
