ATTRIBUTED TO LEONIDA CALDESI (1823-91)

The Princess Royal's Bridesmaids

25 - 25 Jan 1858

Hand-coloured salted paper print | 26.5 x 37.5 cm (whole object) | RCIN 2941848

This hand coloured photograph depicts the bridesmaids of Victoria, the Princess Royal at her wedding in 1858.  The rich colours added to the background contrasts with the bridesmaids' pale, white gowns. Colour has been carefully applied to highlight the delicate pink roses decorating the dresses and hair of the bridesmaids.

By permission of Queen Victoria, this photograph was exhibited at the French Gallery in Pall Mall for a few days in March 1858.
