On 3 July 1861, Prince Albert posed for a series of photographs for the noted photographer Camille Silvy (1834–1910).  The Prince is depicted surrounded by objects, including a globe, books and a statuette of Venus, representing his varied interests in travel, literature and art. 

Following Prince Albert's death in 1861, cartes-de-visite of the Prince sold in the tens of thousands.
