CAMILLE SILVY (1834-1910)

Locket

1861

Gold, hair and a photograph | 2.0 x 1.7 cm (whole object) | RCIN 45502

This gold locket commemorates the death of Prince Albert, his death date inscribed on the verso, 'Dec. 14/1861'.

The locket features a photograph of the Prince on the left and a lock of his hair on the right. A design is carved on the front of the locket featuring the initial 'A' beneath a crown.

Following his death, Queen Victoria commissioned a range of jewellery, often featuring photographs, memorialising her beloved husband.
