ANDRÉ ADOLFE EUGÈNE DISDÉRI (1819-89)

'Les Billes'; Marbles

1853

Salted paper print | 11.3 x 17 cm (whole object) | RCIN 2932747

This posed photograph depicts a group of school boys playing marbles (les billes), observed by two men and a monk.

This photograph probably belongs to the series showing childhood amusements which André Adolfe Eugène Disdéri (1819–89) took at the Institution de l'Assomption at Nîmes in 1853. Works by Disderi were shown at the Paris Exposition of 1855, which Queen Victoria and Prince Albert visited in August of that year.
