CAMILLE SILVY (1834-1910)

Charlotte Frances Frederica (Seymour), Countess Spencer (1835-1903)

16 - 16 Mar 1861

Albumen print | 8.6 x 5.7 cm (image) | RCIN 2800831

This photograph depicts Charlotte Frances Frederica (Seymour), Countess Spencer (1835–1903), in costume as Faith.

It is likely the photograph commemorates a tableau vivant (a scene containing one or more people, often dressed in costume). Prince Albert collected many photographs documenting tableaux vivants, including a tableau of his children as the four seasons.

The photograph is from an album of photographs collected and arranged by both Prince Albert and, following his death in December 1861, Queen Victoria.
