    Unveiling of the statue to the Prince Consort, Balmoral estate

    William Theed is a sculptor particularly associated with memorial works of Prince Albert. This photograph shows the unveiling of his statute of the Prince Consort on the Balmoral estate. The statue portrays Albert with a dog and holding a gun. Queen Victoria stands with a family group to the left of the statue, all holding umbrellas. Highland regiments stand in formation to the right of the statue and a group of men wearing kilts and sporrans stand to the left of the group containing Queen Victoria. A large assembly of people under umbrellas stand on the left.  The statue was unveiled on 15 October 1867.
