Prince Albert's lasting influence can be seen in many mediums
The Prince Consort's Library, Buckingham Palace
1873Carbon print | 15.1 x 20.3 cm (image) | RCIN 2101750
Prince Albert's private library reflected his personal interests and world view, and was based on German cataloguing principles. During his lifetime, Albert's work on his private library was often connected to changes he introduced in the wider Royal Library, Print Room and Royal Household. Two catalogues of Prince Albert's private library exist, from 1843 and 1860.
This photograph shows the Prince Consort's Library in the north wing of Buckingham Palace. The room is divided into two by an arch, the walls are lined with glazed bookcases and there is a bookcase-library table in the centre. Beyond this is a globe and another table.
