Queen Victoria and Prince Albert's interest in the welfare of members of The Royal Household is reflected by their representation in some of the earliest daguerreotypes in the Royal Collection (for example: a, b, c, d). Queen Victoria and Prince Albert also initiated a comprehensive series of 'Royal Household Portraits' albums. Some of these contain indexes at the front of the album, carefully detailing the name, occupation and years of service for each individual. This volume, number 57, was completed after Albert's death. Sitters represented in this album include Sir Henry Ponsonby (1834–1910), Keeper of the Privy Purse from 1878–1895; Emily Mary Kingscote (1836–1910), Lady of the Bedchamber to the Princess of Wales from 1872; and Sir Henry Holland, 1st Baronet (1788–1873), Royal Physician.
