Henri de Triquetti was commissioned to design the cenotaph of Prince Albert for the memorial chapel in 1865. Victoria, the Crown Princess, instructed the sculptor to represent the Prince Consort in medieval armour. The decision to depict Prince Albert in this way may have been prompted by the recent completion of Corbauld's triptych and christening gift for Prince Albert Victor. The effigy of the Prince Consort shows him supported by two angels and statues representing Truth, Justice, Charity, Hope, Mourning Science and Mourning Royalty.
