This album was compiled by Princess Helena, the fifth child and third daughter of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Princess Helena's cypher and crown are stamped in gold on the front cover. In tribute to her parents, the album begins with a portrait of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert by Roger Fenton. The album reflects how Princess Helena shared her father's enjoyment of using photography to document every aspect of her life - from portraits of her family and members of the Royal Household, to photographs of favoured works of art and royal residences. Highlights in the album include two hand-coloured photographs of HRH The Prince Leopold by Leonida Caldesi, showing the prince dressed for the Bal Costume, which was held to celebrate his sixth birthday on 7 April 1859.
