20 Sep 1849Loose typescript paper | 1 document (4 pages) (whole object) | RC/H/1/1/30
Copy of a letter from Lord Normanby in France to Colonel Phipps in which he reports his meeting with the President of France who supported the idea of an exhibition. The president suggested that prizes should be awarded to items of "general utility" so that the Davy Lamp would receive a prize but Babbage's calculating machine would not.
