A representative selection of Prince Albert's school exercise books.
Prince Albert (1819-61), and his elder brother Ernst, Prince of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (1818-93), were taught by their tutor Christoph Florschutz (1794-1882) from the ages of 4 and 5, until they left for university in their late teens. They took classes in Latin, ancient and modern history, geography, reading, writing, German grammar and composition, French, English, chemistry, maths, religious instruction, music, drawing and riding.
Four volumes have been selected from the original collection of 21 volumes, the subjects covered being Latin, French, English and German legal history.
