This volume contains a miscellaneous selection of private and official correspondence of the Prince Consort dating from between 1840 and 1843. Subjects covered include the attempted assassination of Queen Victoria by Edward Oxford, the capture of St. Jean d'Acre in Egypt, the system of promotion in both the army and navy, alterations to military uniforms, the governance of Canada, unrest in Ireland and Wales, tariff negotiations in Portugal, the running of the new royal yacht 'Victoria & Albert' and the births of Victoria, Princess Royal, Edward, Prince of Wales and Princess Alice. Also included is a variety of correspondence regarding Parliamentary proceedings and Royal Household appointments.
