WILLIAM HOOKHAM CARPENTER (1792-1866)
Letter from William Hooker Carpenter, the Keeper of Prints & Drawings, at the British Museum to Charles Ruland regarding arrangements for the Raphael drawings in the museum to be photographed.
22 Jul 1861Loose manuscript paper; mounted | 1 document (4 pages) (whole object) | RA VIC/ADDA10/85/177
Carpenter states that he is returning Ruland's list and photographs together with a list of drawings by or attributed to Raphael in the British Museum. He thinks permission to photograph them must be sought from the Trustees and advises Ruland to do this at once as the last Trustees' meeting of the season is taking place in a few days' time. The museum uses the South Kensington Museum's photographer, but Carpenter imagines the Prince Consort may name whatever photographer he pleases.
