CLIFFORD, CHARLES; PHOTOGRAPHER

Letter from the photographer Charles Clifford to the British Minister in Madrid sending him the plates and prints [of the photographs of pictures by Raphael in Madrid] for the Prince Consort.

9 Dec 1858

Loose manuscript paper; mounted | 1 document (2 pages) (whole object) | RA VIC/ADDA10/85/318

Clifford writes that he is sending a small box with 4 plates and prints of each [photographs of three Raphaels in the Royal Museum in Madrid and one in the Duke of Alba's collection] as requested. He asks Buchanan to let the Prince Consort know that the pictures are 'most unphotographic', especially as they are thickly coated with varnish.
